The 1980s Zildjian catalog describes the China Boy as:
"A swooping edge, square bell and thin weight creates the authentic, trashy, china sound but with that extra Zildjian quality. Two separate China Boys are available-one high pitched , the other low pitched. Pitch variations are the result of different cup-to-edge metal tapers and profiles."
